New bus shelters and pedestrian crossings are being installed at Tubber beginning this month
After years of persistence and planning, much-needed improvements to public transport infrastructure in Tubber are finally about to become reality. Work on installing new bus shelters and upgrading pedestrian crossings is set to commence on Monday, August 12.
The development has been welcomed by Councillor Shane Murray, who credited Councillor Frank Moran for his tireless advocacy at Tullamore Municipal District level.
''Since I started in the chamber, Cllr Frank Moran has raised this issue at every meeting,'' said Cllr Murray. ''His commitment to upgrading Tubber’s bus stops and improving pedestrian safety has been constant and now we’re finally seeing action.''
Offaly County Council will carry out the works, which are expected to take approximately eight weeks to complete. A Stop/Go traffic system will be in operation during this period.
''While there will be some inconvenience,'' Cllr Murray added, ''we’re asking for patience. These improvements are for the long-term safety and benefit of the Tubber community.''
At the July meeting of Tullamore District, Cllr Moran stressed the importance of completing the works before the new college year, to support students commuting to TUS Athlone and Moate College.
Tubber and Horseleap are connected to key towns like Tullamore by Bus Éireann and TFI Local Link, vital transport services for rural communities.

''If you look at the bus stops on William Street in Tullamore, just outside Doyle’s Gala, you can see how busy those Local Link services are,” said Cllr Murray. ''They’re a lifeline, and this is just the beginning.''
He added that next on the agenda are traffic calming measures at Killeigh National School and a bus stop for the village of Killeigh, steps aimed at further strengthening transport links across the Tullamore Municipal District.
''We’re building a safer, more connected network, linking our towns and villages in a way that works for everyone.''
