Offaly takes gold at Bloom Garden Festival

A French native now living in Coolderry, Offaly, has won a gold medal at the Bloom Garden Festival.

Louise Checa scooped the gold in the Best Planting category for medium gardens.

A total of 19 medals, including eight gold medals, were awarded to show gardens in advance of the show opening.

In the Nursery Village, 16 medals were awarded to new and returning plant nurseries. This year’s Postcard Gardens, which are small but perfectly formed gardens created by community groups received 11 medals.

In Westmeath the Athlone GAA Green Clubs Garden, was Highly Commended, in the Postcard Garden section.

The other midlands counties of Laois and Longford didn't feature in the winning categories.

Across a 70-acre site in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, visitors soaked up the sights, sounds, and tastes of summer over five days packed with live entertainment, talks, interactive workshops, dining, shopping and more.
