A ONE-WAY system is currently in operation on upper William St and Kilbeggan Bridge in Tullamore as major resurfacing works take place.
Roadworks have been ongoing in the area over the past number of weeks as footpaths were widened on the street and on the bridge.
This has led to some concern among motorists and townspeople that the bridge will be too narrow to accommodate two lorries or buses.

However, county council officials, briefing councillors at last week's Municipal District meeting, said the bridge – at 6.5 metres wide – was wide enough to accommodate traffic.
The works follow on from major developments at Convent View on the other side of the canal. This street was widened, a new footpath put in place and new railings erected.
These works were warmly welcomed by residents, motorists and the huge number of walkers who use the area daily.
