Two primary schools in Offaly are gearing up for significant expansions, each launching tender processes for major construction projects aimed at enhancing their facilities and supporting growing student numbers.

St Joseph's National School in Tullamore has opened a tender for the supply and installation of a two-storey prefabricated extension. The planned development will feature six new classrooms, ancillary toilets, two set rooms, two universally accessible WCs, stairwells, a platform lift and all necessary site works.

The extension is set to be built to the south rear of the school's current facility. The contract is valued at a maximum €2m excluding vat with the deadline for tender submissions set for April 28.

Established at its current location in 1980, St Joseph's is a coeducational Catholic junior primary school, catering for around 400 pupils including two special needs classes.

The school has seen steady growth over the years with refurbishments in 2004 and four new rooms added in 2008.

Meanwhile, St Sinchill's National School in Killeigh is also preparing for a significant development. The school is seeking the most economically advantageous tender for the construction of a single-storey extension designed to support special education needs.

The project will include two new special education classrooms, remedial and demolition works, external landscaping, expanded play areas, and additional parking facilities. The estimated value of the works is a maximum €3.8 million with a submission deadline of May 5.
