A WHOPPING €17.2 million in funding for regional and local roads in 2025 across Offaly has been announced.

This significant investment will support crucial restoration improvements, safety measures, bridge rehabilitation, climate change and flooding adaptation as well as enhancing the strategic road network.

Included in this funding is €1.8 million for Birr distributor road, as well as €200,500 for phase two of Edenderry Inner Relief Road and €600,000 for the R441 Monasteroris.

This allocation represents almost a 10% increase on 2024 funding, demonstrating the government’s strong commitment to improving road infrastructure and ensuring safer, more efficient transport routes for communities and businesses.

Welcoming the announcement, Deputy John Clendennen said: “This funding is a major boost for regional and local roads, ensuring that essential upgrades, safety improvements, and climate adaptation measures can be delivered. I am particularly pleased to see the allocation of €1.8 million for Birr distributor road and €600,000 for the R441 Monasteroris road, as well as €200,000 funding for the inner relief road in Edenderry and €129,000 for Killyon cross roads, which will greatly benefit local communities and commuters and improve safety."

"This investment highlights the continued collaboration between Offaly County Council and the Government and I look forward to continue working with my colleagues at Offaly County Council to enhance road infrastructure, improve connectivity, and support economic growth across the county. The 10% increase in funding is a strong step forward in addressing local transport needs and ensuring a safer, more efficient road network for all road users", continued Deputy Clendennen.

This funding will enable key road projects to progress, supporting economic development and enhancing accessibility across Offaly.
