Former convent chapel is now a top class gym (pic Clara GAA)
Clara GAA club has revamped a former convent chapel into a gym.
Last October the club received a 10-year planning permission for the refurbishment of St Brigid's Convent building which is a protected structure.
The development involved the demolition of an existing ball wall and rear extensions. The construction of a 2-storey extension to the rear of the existing building on a phased basis providing, dressing rooms, toilets, storage, plant room, gym, and the erection of a spectator stand, ball wall and all-weather training area.
The plan also incorporated the provision of carparking, paths, paving, walking track lighting, floodlighting, alterations to pitches, ball stops, dug-outs, landscaping, fencing and railings, foul sewer drainage, surface water drainage to a soakaway on site, and all associated site development works to complete the development.
On its facebook page, Clara GAA said the ''gym is officially complete, transforming a church into a top class gym. Designed and installed by our team, this space is set to take training to the next level.''
