The number of passengers using Tullamore Railway Station has increased

A National Rail Census report which was carried out by the NTA (National Transport Authority) on November 9, 2023 reveals that 1,357 passengers used Tullamore Train Station on that day alone.

If this daily average holds true for the rest of the year, excluding Christmas and St Stephen's days when no rail services operate, it would mean approximately 493,00 people use the station annually.

Currently 15 trains run every weekday from Tullamore to Heuston and 13 to Athlone and beyond resulting in a total of 28 trains in each direction. The census data indicates that on November 9 an average of 44 passengers boarded or alighted each train at Tullamore.

On November 9, the station recorded 685 boardings in 2023 compared to 647 in 2022. 508 of those were catching trains headed to Dublin Heuston and 177 boarded services travelling towards Galway.

There was also a notable increase in the number of passengers disembarking at Tullamore with the numbers jumping from 600 in 2022 to 710 in 2023, an increase of 18%. Specifically 521 passengers arrived from Dublin while 189 came from the west.

At Clara station passenger boardings rose from 120 in 2022 to 124 on census day. 100 were travelling to Dublin and 24 to the west.

Additionally 125 passengers disembarked at Clara up from 121 in 2022, 30 coming from Dublin bound trains and 95 from the opposite direction.

Overall 249 passengers either boarded or alighted at Clara, an increase from 241 in 2022.
