A sketch of how the new bandstand at Lloyd Town Park will look when finished
Offaly County Council is expected to take delivery of a new bandstand, caretakers office and modular toilets for Lloyd Town Park shortly.
Larkin Engineering and Healthmatic Ltd respectively have been working on these items for a number of months.
Meanwhile the water feature which is integral to the park is also due to be repaired.
Ellsport Ltd have been appointed to carry out civil works in the park including the water feature.
All works are expected to be complete by September or early October.
The water feature and fountains have been out of action for a long while and vandalism took place when rocks were thrown into it and some of the perimeter paving was lifted.
Local photographer Michael McGrath said the disimprovement in the water feature appeared to begin during the Covid-19 lock-down.
Councillor Neil Feighery said the park is a “real gem” in Tullamore where its playground and basketball court are used by many people.
“We are well aware of the challenge posed by the existing water feature that's there. There is a significant refurbishment project required to bring it back to its former glory,” said Cllr Feighery.
The Department of Rural and Community Development announced funding of €20,000 for the water feature in May of this year.
