Student Allyssa Bennies with teacher Ms Gloria Enrique at the EMINENT Conference in Dublin
On the 6th and 7th of December, European Schoolnet organised its annual EMINENT conference in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. EMINENT is an expert meeting in education networking, bringing stakeholders from across Europe together to discuss the next challenges and potential solutions to ensure an innovative education for all.
Building upon the European Commission’s Digital Education Action Plan (2021 – 2027) and the Strategy for a Better Internet for Kids, this year’s event explored how to empower students, teachers and parents through a whole-school data literacy approach.
Sacred Heart School Tullamore was invited to participated on this year’s EMINENT conference. Teachers, Gloria Enrique and Annette Griffin, and Third Year Student, Allyssa Bennies showcased the work that the last year’s SHS Safer Internet Day Team did to raise awareness between the school community about the importance of data literacy and how to manage student’s data footprint online. Allyssa explained the importance of student voice when planning “That’s the way the cookie crumbles… or is it” SHS Safer Internet Day campaign.
After conducting a First Year students survey, the Safer Internet Day team found out that most of students didn’t change their passwords often or clean their cookies after browsing online. After this findings, they created a number of activities to help students to have a better presence online. Given the quality of the presentations and research students Allyssa Bennies and Serene Shaju were awarded the Webwise Leadership Award 2022.
