Stockport boss Dave Challinor was satisfied with his side’s 2-0 victory over Crawley which saw them earn consecutive wins and climb to fifth position in League One.
First-half goals from Will Collar and Macauley Southam-Hales put County in the driving seat but Challinor was still demanding more from his side after the game.
He said: “A really good first-half performance got us into the lead and ultimately a winning position and I think we probably should’ve got more than we actually did.
“You could say we were comfortable in the second half given the majority of the game was played between the penalty boxes and there wasn’t a whole lot of quality but I think that’s where we need to get better.
“We wanted to kick on and get that third goal and I think that would have potentially changed how the game pans out. The game then became sort of a little bit sloppy and I thought we could have made better decisions.
“That’s the area where I’ve wanted us to get better this season and at times we’ve shown that but we didn’t show it as much as I’d have liked in the second half and I think that’s a learning point for us.”
Crawley manager Rob Elliot called on his side to show more ruthlessness and commitment, with this loss seeing them slip to 23rd in the table.
The Red Devils are now without a win in seven league games and Elliot said: “We need to have more of a ruthless mentality to try and win every single moment of the game and at the moment we want to just do that when it suits us.
“When the ball turns over or when we get pressure against us, we’re not willing to do the other stuff, the horrible things. We have to look at our work-rate, is that where we need it to be and are people doing the jobs that have been asked of them?
“I take responsibility with the set-up of the team but it doesn’t matter what team, set-up or formation you play if everyone’s not buying into it and not doing their role within it.
“We just need a group of lads now that’ll come in and give absolutely everything and follow the instructions they’re given because that’s the only way we’ll succeed with togetherness. I do believe if we all show that, we’ll be absolutely fine.”
