Louise celebrates her 50th parkrun

This week marked the celebration of Women in Sport Week and International Women's Day. Both of these were highlighted and celebrated at Mountlucas parkrun at the weekend.

Run Director, Mairéad Scally, read out a special commemorative poem before the event began:

"At Mountlucas, where the turbines spin,

Women rise with strength within-

Striding forward, miles in view,

Powerful as the winds that blew.

Each runner's step, a gentle roar,

Echoing those who ran before.

On this path, together we say:

Here's to Women, today and every day."

Louise Kennedy completed her 50th parkrun on the day, and shared homemade treats baked by her daughter, with the other attendees. The ladies were certainly at the top of their game to celebrate Women in Sport Week and International Women's Day. There were an amazing eight personal bests (PBs) achieved, 7 of these by women; Kate Cunningham, Shannon Sumner, Rachel Groome, Martina Lawlor, Pippa McNamee, Aine Heffernan, and Geraldine Mann. A very special well done to Martina Lawlor who has been building up her strength and endurance on her journey to break 30 minutes for 5km and achieved it at the weekend.
