Sympathy
Rhode GAA Club was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Patrick "Patsy" McGovern and extends sincere sympathy to his wife Maureen, daughters Carmel, Mary, and Shirley, sons-in-law Tom, Joey, and Danny, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, brother Johnny and friends.
Patsy and his family have been pillars of Rhode GAA and Offaly GAA for as long as anyone can remember. A talented footballer, Patsy played a crucial role in Rhode's 1958 Senior Football Championship victory, scoring a decisive goal that would be remembered for years to come. His dedication to Rhode GAA extended far beyond his playing days, with Patsy and Maureen becoming fixtures at matches, dinner dances, and AGMs until health challenges intervened in recent years.
This commitment to Rhode GAA became a cherished family tradition. His daughters Mary, Carmel, and Shirley have been steadfast supporters, with Mary serving with distinction as Club Treasurer for many years. Patsy's legacy continues through his grandchildren James, Stephen, and Barry, who have all proudly worn the green and gold, securing championships at both underage and adult levels. His son-in-law Tom Coffey further enhanced the family's contribution to the club, notably, leading Rhode to championship glory as manager in 2008 and 2010.
Patsy's Funeral mass took place at St.Peter's church Rhode on Monday last followed by burial to the adjoining cemetery.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
