Three motorists were caught by gardai driving well above the speed limit in one spot in Offaly in just 20 minutes.

Gardai in Offaly detected the motorists speeding in an 80kph zone recently on the R420 between Geashill and Portarlington.

One of the motorists was 57kph over the speed limit as gardai clocked them driving at 137kph. The other motorists were caught driving at 114koh and 113kph respectively.

In a post on social media, gardai said, "starting 2025 strong with pole position on the 'Lose Your Licence Grand Prix' leader board – powered by speed and poor decisions! Among those detected speeding by Offaly Roads Policing Unit along the R420 between Geashill, Co. Offaly and Portarlington, Co. Laois were these three - all going well above the 80km/h limit. All three were clocked within 20mins of another and will receive both a fine and points in the post."
