Aliens? Mystery over darting lights in sky over Offaly with locals baffled

Some locals in Offaly were left baffled over strange lights in the sky over the Bank Holiday Weekend.

A number of people took to social media to ask if anyone had an explanation for the lights which appeared to be darting back and forth across the sky all night on Sunday and Monday.

One local noticed the lights close to Edenderry, describing them as "very odd" while another said they had noticed them on Saturday and Sunday.

Some jokingly said they could be the 'bat signal' or aliens, but there was in fact a very simple explanation.

The lights visible across multiple counties were coming from the Hill of Allen in Kildare with its round tower illuminated as part of the St Brigid's day celebrations.

The lights are said to serve as "a beacon of hope" and were on for the entire weekend. So, Offaly wasn't being visited by alien species after all! See below the tower lit up on the Hill of Allen.
