DT Swiss has recalled specific wheel models safety concerns including 'a risk of death'
The Consumer and Competition Protection Commission (CCPC) is advising members of the public that several models of DT Swiss bicycle wheels sold in Ireland are being recalled amid serious safety concerns.
The company says the recall is due to the risk of property damage, serious injury or death, as the wheel rim may weaken or fail unexpectedly.
In a public notice the CCPC is says the impacted models included in the recall are: ARC, ERC, CRC and HEC.
The affected wheel models of the ERC, CRC and HEC series have rim heights of 35 and 45mm while the ARC series has rim heights of 50, 55 and 65mm.

The CCPC says consumers should check all wheels on their bikes as wheels included in the recall were sold both as a complete bike as well as individual components.
There are approximately 656 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.

In a statement, DT Swiss said while ARC models were not included in an initial Stop-Use Notice, issued in July, they have been included in the full recall.
"Following the Stop-Use Notice issued on July 12, 2025, and after comprehensive analysis and the development of a structured resolution process, we are now announcing an official product recall," it reads.
"They are included in the recall notice as since they are produced in the same facility, an in-depth quality check, revealed similar manufacturing concerns to the ERC/CRC/HEC models," added the statement.
According to the company the affected rims were all produced in Vietnam and are carbon fiber composite rims, also referred to as carbon rims.
The recall comes after a number of reported incidents from the ERC product families revealed spontaneous delamination (which is detachment of the outer carbon layers) can occur in the rim flange area.

This weakening does not affect the rim bed, but it does become damaged due to the structural weakening.
Delamination of this type causes considerable structural weakening and can cause total failure of the rim.
This defect in the product increases the risk of accident that could result in property damage, serious injury or death.
Consumers are being urder to check the DT Swiss ID number to check their rims and visit Product Safety Recall - DT Swiss | DT Swiss or email recall@dtswiss.com to verify if their wheels are a part of the recall.
Those in possession of recalled wheels are being urged to stop using them immediately.
Wheels included in the recall will be inspected by DT Swiss to ensure they are safe to use, and if necessary, they will replace the recalled wheels free of charge.
