There were celebrations at National Lottery Headquarters in Dublin this Tuesday as a lucky player collected a mega €1m prize.
The player from County Meath purchased the winning Millionaire Raffle ticket on Christmas Eve from Tierney’s Nearby at Trimgate Street in Navan. “I overheard people chatting about the Millionaire Raffle, so I decided to buy myself a ticket. I was up bright and early to get a car wash and grab a last-minute Kris Kindle gift – I left it late, I know," he revealed.
“While the gift was being wrapped, I went to a shop nearby to buy the raffle ticket – not thinking much of it. It wasn’t until days after the draw when I saw online that the winning ticket was sold in Meath that I checked it. When I first glanced over the raffle numbers, I knew I was onto a good one,” he laughed.
When asked where he kept the precious ticket, the lucky player revealed it was hidden in plain sight – casually placed on a bookcase in the living room.
With his newfound fortune, the Meath winner says he plans to upgrade his car and take care of his family, making this a truly unforgettable start to the year.

Separately, a Kerry syndicate of two also struck gold in the Millionaire Raffle on New Year’s Eve. The duo collected their €100,000 cheque after being gifted the ticket for Christmas, originally purchased from Foley’s Spar Express at Iveragh Road in Killorglin.
“We were getting ready to host a festive gathering and quickly remembered to check the ticket. The two of us kept cross-checking the figures, we couldn’t believe it was our raffle number,” One member of the syndicate chimed in:
“We’ve had a bottle of champagne sitting pretty – waiting to be opened for a celebration of some sort. Sure enough, we cracked it open, and the celebrations began,” they added.
The duo from the Kingdom has no immediate plans to spend their fortunes but intend on booking a trip away as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, a Cork couple also claimed €100,000 prize which they won in the Millionaire Raffle on New Year’s Eve. They too were gifted the ticket for Christmas, originally purchased at Centra, Shandon Street in Cork city.
Speaking to the National Lottery, the couple said: “We said this year, we would both finally learn how to drive – and now, we will definitely be able to do that.”
The couple added, the life-changing prize will also go towards a deposit for a house.
