Funeral arrangements announced for couple killed in hit and run in Blanchardstown

The funeral of the husband and wife who were tragically killed in a road traffic collision in Blanchardstown on St Stephen's Day will take place on Friday, 2 January.

Parents Anthony Hogg (40) and Georgina Hogg Moore (39) were hit by a car while crossing a road near the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre in Dublin at around 5.45pm on St Stephen's Day.

Hours after the incident, a man handed himself into Blanchardstown Garda Station and was arrested.

On Monday, 30 January, John Halpin (45) appeared in court and was charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death and two counts of hit and run, including failing to offer assistance at the scene. He was remanded into custody.

The funeral for the couple who lived in the Whitestown area is due to take place on Friday, with mourners asked to wear bright colours to "reflect both Anto and Georgina's personalities."

In the funeral notice, Anthony and Georgina were described as the "cherished mother and father of Ryan and Becky-Joy, beloved children of Valerie, Jackie and the late George and Paul."

There has been a GoFundMe page created to help provide for Anthony and Georgina's children's future. Georgina's brother Ross will put the money into a trust and manage that trust on behalf of the children.

The page says that the money raised will ensure "they have the care, resources, and opportunities their parents would have wanted for them. While nothing can replace the love and presence of Georgina and Anto, we hope to ease the financial burden and create a foundation for their children to thrive."

It asks people to "honour the memory of Georgina and Anto by giving back the kindness they so freely gave to others."

They added: "Thank you for your generosity, support, and love during this difficult time."
