This year Fianna Fáil will mark 100 years since its foundation at the La Scala Theatre on 16 May 1926 and the occasion will be marked in Tipperary

It was visionary, idealistic, and committed men and women who founded Fianna Fáil under the leadership of Eamon de Valera.

What followed was a momentous national movement encompassing the ideals of a united Ireland, social and economic advancement, and equal opportunities. Fianna Fáil entered government for the first time in 1932 and in 1937 the Irish people ratified Bunreacht na hÉireann, the Irish constitution.

“As we begin this centenary year, we do so not only to honour those who had the courage and foresight to found our movement, but to reaffirm our shared purpose and to look ahead width confidence, ambition and belief in the future of Fianna Fáil”, Tipperary PRO Tim Maher told the Tribune ahead of commemorations.

“As we mark our centenary year, we are encouraging members and supporters to take a look in their homes for any Fianna Fáil memorabilia from years past.

“We would like to thank May and Jim Casey who presented North Tipperary/West Kilkenny Fianna Fáil with Fianna Fáil memorabilia last Monday night in Borrisoleigh.”

Included was a list of the members of the Nenagh Sinn Fein Cumann who joined Fianna Fáil enblock in 1926, a copy of minutes from the first Ard Fheis, scrapbooks and newspapers.

“A wonderful collection and hopefully we will get more over the coming weeks,” Tim Maher said.

“Please forward any Tipperary Fianna Fáil related memorabilia, pictures, articles, posters, press releases, leaflets, stories, videos, photos, recordings, etc. to our Centenary Committee at tippnorthkkwestff @gmail.com or to 085 135 0411.

“Or leave a message with your name, number, and address, and we can arrange to come and scan, copy, or photograph items”.
