Litany of traffic offences results in four year disqualification for Offaly motorist

An Offaly was disqualified from driving and fined when he was summoned before court in Tullamore last week for nine road traffic offences.

Raymond McCabe (37) with an address at Kilmaine, Fortal, Birr,was disqualified from driving for four years and fined €1,750 by Judge Andrew Cody at Tullamore District Court. Garda Clarke from Tullamore Garda Station told the court that on May 13 of this year he stopped the defendant's Toyota Auris at Hillside, Crinkill, Birr, Co Offaly at 4.35pm.

He spoke to the defendant about the motor tax disc on the vehicle which had expired by six months and demanded he produce his documents at a Garda station.

The road worthiness certificate for the vehicle had also expired and the defendant told Garda Clarke he lived nearby and was in the process of preparing the vehicle for a road worthiness test.

Garda Clarke also issued a fixed charge penalty notice which was not paid.

The defendant nominated Birr Garda Station to produce his documents, but failed to do so, Garda Clarke said.

The defendant has two previous convictions, both for road traffic offences.

Judge Cody fined the defendant €750 with six months to pay and imposed a two year driving disqualification for driving without insurance and further fine of €250 with six months to pay and two year driving disqualification for no driving licence.

For the offence of no road worthiness certificate he was fined €250 with six months to pay and for the offence of no valid motor tax he was convicted and fined €500 with six months to pay.
