A warm and heartfelt Civic Reception was held on Thursday, 30th October, in the Age Friendly Building on Gaol Road, Roscrea, to honour Fr Tom Corbett for his outstanding dedication and service to the people of Roscrea and the wider community.

The event was hosted by Tipperary County Council, with Cathaoirleach of the Council, Cllr. John Carroll, presiding over the occasion.

Also in attendance were the Municipal Council's Leas Cathaoirleach Cllr Eddie Moran, Cllr Willie Kennedy, and District Administrator Sharon Scully.

The gathering included Fr Tom’s friends, parishioners, and representatives from various community organisations — all of whom came together to celebrate a man who has given so much of himself to the town and its people.

The formal reception and presentation to Fr Tom was a sincere expression of gratitude from the Council and the community. Fr Tom was nominated for the honour by Cllr Michael Smith, who spoke warmly about the priest’s many contributions to parish and community life.

“I am honoured to nominate Fr Tom Corbett for a Civic Reception by Tipperary County Council, in gratitude for his dedicated service to the people,” said Cllr Smith.

“From the moment he arrived in Roscrea Parish, Fr Tom brought warmth, kindness, and a genuine connection with all he met.

His simple, caring nature and deep understanding of people made him truly a man of the community. His popularity was never sought — it came naturally, through his neighbourly spirit and the way he lived the Gospel message.”

Speaking at the event, Cllr Smith described Fr Tom as “a kind, thoughtful, considerate, and most humble man,” adding that he “left a lasting impression on the community of Roscrea and we are indebted to him.”

Throughout his years in Roscrea, Fr Tom has been a comforting and familiar presence to many. Whether in times of joy or sorrow, he has been there for families, individuals, and community groups, offering compassion and understanding in equal measure.

His ability to bring people together, to listen, and to lead with humility has earned him deep respect and affection from all who know him.

Cllr Carroll and fellow members of the Council praised Fr Tom’s unwavering commitment to his parish and the many ways in which he has enriched community life.

They highlighted how his approachability, warmth, and faith have touched countless lives and strengthened the bonds within Roscrea.

The evening concluded with a formal presentation and words of appreciation to Fr Tom, followed by warm applause and personal congratulations from all in attendance.
