The road safety improvements will take place on several streets in Banagher.
A TOWN in Offaly is to get a "very significant" road safety scheme, a recent meeting was told.
Area Engineer Brian Keenaghan gave an update about the Banagher – Safe Routes to School Scheme during the October meeting of Birr Municipal District.
He remarked that this will be a major scheme over a wide area, encompassing upgrades to footpaths, carriageway, public lighting, pedestrian crossing points, park and stride locations, and climate measures.
The Scheme totals 2.2km in length, encompassing The Square, Main Street, Church Street, The Hill, St. Rynagh’s Road, Cuba Avenue.
The Part 8 design is currently being reviewed by the National Transport Authority. The ambition is to progress to the Part 8 Application submission in Q4 2025, subject to NTA agreement on the design.
He added that an Active Travel Scheme on Church Street, Banagher has commenced. This will include the mprovement of a footpath, new footpaths, public lighting. The Contractor is to commence week beginning 20th October. “It will be a 5 week programme, depending on the services.”
