Barn owls will benefit from the funding
Fianna Fáil TD for Tipperary North, Ryan O’Meara, has welcomed the allocation of €94,993.13 to Tipperary County Council for ten new biodiversity initiatives under the National Parks and Wildlife Service’s Local Biodiversity Action Fund (LBAF).
Established in 2018, the LBAF helps local authorities implement projects that protect and enhance biodiversity. To date, the fund has distributed nearly €11 million nationwide.
Funded Projects in Tipperary Include:
• Recording Irish Mayfly – Establishing Conservation Status: €1,228.28
• Tipperary Nightjar Survey 2025: €13,864.35
• Training and Awareness Initiatives: €7,225.00
• Tipperary Wetlands Survey: €26,138.00
• County Tipperary Hedgerow Survey: €26,987.50
• Ecological Survey & Biodiversity Management on Council Lands: €19,550.00
“This funding empowers local authorities to preserve the natural beauty and biodiversity we’ve grown up with, so it can be enjoyed for generations to come,” Deputy O’Meara said.
He praised the work of Tipperary County Council, saying: “The Council is playing a crucial role in safeguarding our environment. This investment recognises that commitment and will have a real impact both locally and as part of broader national efforts.”

The projects supported through the fund cover a wide range of conservation work, including research into native species such as the Irish Mayfly, woodland bats, and barn owls, as well as the preservation of important habitats like meadows and wetlands.
“This is a strong step forward for biodiversity in Tipperary. I want to commend everyone involved and look forward to seeing these projects come to life,” O’Meara added.
