The general public is warmly invited to participate in a pagan festival to be held high on the slopes of the Slieve Bloom Mountains.
The Slieve Bloom Association will be marking the pagan festival of Imbolc on Spink mountain (Bracket Stone) near Cadamstown during which goats will be milked.
Anyone who wishes to participate in this ancient ritual should meet at 1pm on Sunday February 2nd in Cadamstown Car Park.
The Imbolc Festival marks the beginning of Spring and it's one of the four Celtic seasonal festivals, the others being Bealtaine, Lughnasadh and Samhain.
Imbolc was revived by the Slieve Bloom Association in 2013. There are many customs associated with this seasonal festival. The custom associated with the Slieve Bloom Mountains is the milking of the goat.
The Association brings their festival goat high up Spink Hill. After milking they churn the milk. Afterwards, the Goat is crowned, which means it is adorned with ribbons and garlands.
