Met Éireann has delivered its forecast for the first full week of September and it's a bit of a mixed bag.

Ireland has enjoyed a warm and sunny weekend and while there will be sun next week too, there will also be some unsettled conditions to contend with.

In its forecast for the week ahead, Met Éireann says Monday morning will be "cloudy with outbreaks of rain and patches of mist and fog.

"Drier and brighter weather will gradually develop in the west through the afternoon and evening, but it will stay cloudy elsewhere with some heavy and possibly thundery showers. Mostly light to moderate northwesterly winds, fresh at times. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees."

They add that "showers will continue in the east for a time on Monday night, some of them heavy. It will be mostly dry with clear spells in other areas, although a few light showers will develop in the west. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees with light to moderate west to northwest or variable winds.

"Largely dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells [on Tuesday night]. Some showers will develop overnight, mainly in the west and north. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees with light west to northwest winds.

"Sunny spells and scattered showers on Wednesday. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in a light to moderate northwesterly wind.

"Mostly dry and clear on Wednesday night, although some showers are possible in the east and southeast. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees with light northerly winds.

"Mostly dry on Thursday, with cloud increasing and possibly some showery rain moving into the southeast. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees with a moderate to fresh north to northeast breeze," they concluded.
