Big u-turn in Met Eireann weather forecast for Ireland and it's not good
There is a big u-turn in Met Eireann's latest extended range forecast for Ireland and it's not for the better.
In its latest extended range forecast issued today, Met Eireann is forecasting mixed weather for next week for different parts of the country while the first week of July is set to be wet with spells of rain. A previous forecast had been forecasting high pressure across Ireland but it now appears as if low pressure will play a major part in the weather for the remainder of June and into July.
According to Met Eireann, from June 24 to June 30, Ireland will lie in a predominantly south-westerly airflow between low pressure to the west and high pressure to the east. With high pressure to our east, rainfall over the eastern half of the country will be near normal or below. However, further to the west, indications suggest that it will be slightly wetter than average due to low pressure close by. Mean temperatures will be higher than average nationwide.
Met Eireann says that from July 1 to July 7, there is a signal for somewhat more changeable conditions. Low pressure is shown to have more of an influence on the weather for Ireland. This will bring more frequent showers or possibly spells of rain. Rainfall will be near normal or slightly above as a result. Temperatures will be around normal or marginally above also.
Met Eireann says there is low confidence in the forecast for July 8 to July 14 but low pressure is signalled to develop over continental Europe, with a chance of high pressure influencing the weather over Ireland. Temperatures and rainfall are generally expected to be around average.
Met Eireann says that its extended forecast can at times provide an insight into weather patterns in the months ahead but it should not be used for specific planning purposes.
