Offaly's libraries will close this Wednesday, February 15
Public Libraries in Ireland are working together to create one joint library catalogue, using a shared computer system. In the current phase of the project, Offaly Libraries, along with other library services around the country, are introducing this new computer system and making some changes which will help them provide a better service to library users.
This update will result in some disruption to services, and all Offaly Libraries will be closed this coming Wednesday, February 15. Libraries will reopen on Thursday, February 16 at 1.30pm. Despite the temporary disruption, the new computer system will mean there are some added benefits for users of the libraries in Offaly. Following the installation, users will be able to search and request items from any public library nationwide, borrow a wide range of books and DVDs for 3 weeks, enjoy a new email notification service, reserve and renew books and DVDs 24/7 using an online service.
The libraries have said there may be some teething problems as they introduce the new computer system and make these changes, but they have urged people to "please bear with them." In order to avail of these new benefits, users will be required to provide their local library with an email address, and can continue to use the new service by remembering to always bring their library card when visiting.
