'Very unsightly': calls made for gazebos in Tullamore Town Centre to be cleaned

The cleaning of the umbrellas on Main Street in Tullamore were also discussed at the meeting

Concerns have been raised that the gazebos on the Main Street in Tullamore need cleaning ahead of the Summer period because they have become ' very unsightly'.

Councillor Neil Feighery pointed out the issue at the April meeting of the Tullamore Municipal District. He said: "I noticed it myself whilst driving through Main Street in Tullamore lately, the gazebos have become very unsightly I think. I know they were put up a few years ago and they are being used by young people."

He added: "I think it would be great if we could get those looked at whether they can be cleaned easily or if they require a specialist job. I think it would be very good if we could see that happening soon in that particular location."

Councillor Shane Murray agreed with the motion and also pointed out other features that may need cleaning. He said: "With regard to the green algae on the umbrellas downtown, just outside Flynn's Bakery at the Bridge House, those ones have to be addressed as well, but in general they all need to be looked at in a big way."

Joe Dooley, Senior Executive Engineer responded to Cllr Feighery's motion by saying: "As far as the Gazebo's on Main Street, that was actually pointed out to me this morning by a member of the public as well. I have mentioned it to our General Services Supervisor (GSS) so we will get onto that as Summer kicks in over the next four weeks."

He concluded: "Once the schedule allows it with our outdoor staff then that is a job that we will take on ourselves, we will get those cleaned then, I have been down there lately and they did look particularly gritty so we acknowledge it and they will be kept cleaned going forward."
