FINE Gael TD for Offaly, Deputy John Clendennen, welcomed former Fine Gael elected representatives from across Offaly to Leinster House in a special event recognising their service and contribution to public life last week.

The event brought together former Councillors and TDs who have represented communities across the county over many years, along with their guests. Those in attendance included Johnny Butterfield, Tom Enright, Liam Hogan, Brian Whelahan, Patricia Brady, Nichola Hogan Scally, Connie Hanniffy and Percy Clendennen.

Speaking following the event, Deputy Clendennen said, “It takes real courage to put your name on a ballot paper and step forward to represent your local community. Those who have done so, often over many years, have made a lasting contribution to Offaly and to public life more broadly.

Today was about recognising that service and saying thank you. I was proud to welcome so many former representatives to Leinster House and to acknowledge the role they have played in shaping our communities.

The strength of Fine Gael in Offaly is built on the dedication of those who have gone before us, and it is important that we recognise and value that contribution as we continue to grow out representation in Offaly.”

Deputy Clendennen added that the event also provided an opportunity to reflect on the continued importance of public service and encouraging new people to get involved in political life at local and national level.
