Offaly Gardaí detect jeep towing trailer at dangerous speed

Offaly Gardai detected a driver towing a trailer at dangerous speed on Thursday

Gardai say they clocked the jeep pulling a trailer at 132 kph. The maximum speed allowed when towing a trailer is 80kph.

A post on social media stated, “Offaly Roads Policing detected a jeep towing a trailer travelling at 132km/h. When towing a trailer, the maximum legal speed limit is 80km/h – regardless of whether it is on a motorway, national or regional road.

"Travelling in excess of this limit while towing greatly increases stopping distances and the risk of trailer sway, putting all road users in danger.

The driver is now facing prosecution and and gardai urged road users to always ensure trailers are roadworthy, obey speed limits and driver in accordance with road conditions.
