Portlaoise District Court
A woman admitted breaching a safety order against the father of a number of her children.
The woman (40) who cannot be named due to the nature of the proceedings admitted sending text messages to the man on November 10 last.
Garda Sergeant Colin O’Leary said the woman and man have joint custody of the children and the woman texted the man.
“She stated to him, F off you foreign weirdo,” he said.
He said the woman also texted “you are going to be killed in town little man.”
Sgt O’Leary said there was a safety order in place and the woman had five previous convictions.
Solicitor Philip Meagher said his client was “having a very bad day” and an issue had arisen around a lift. He said there were issues around maintenance and access.
Mr Meagher said the response back to the text from the man two minutes later had been the “laughing hilarious” emoji along with a message that said “I am scared now!”
He told the court that there had been no trouble since the incident. “I don’t think she will trouble the court in this context again,” he added.
Judge Susan Fay requested a victim impact statement and a probation service report which is to include restorative justice.
She adjourned the matter back to Portlaoise District Court on September 8.
