ALERT: Main road in Offaly to close in two places for two weeks in May with long diversions
A main road in Offaly is to close in two separate places for two weeks in May with long diversions to be put in place.
The two sets of works will take place on the N62 between Birr and Athlone. It is unclear if both sets of works will take place at the one time.
Road works will take place on the N62 from south of Cloghan for Boolinarig Little and from north of Doon to south of Ballinahown.
For the works from Cloghan to Boolinarig Little, over 11 kilometres of road will be closed. Access will be available for the local residents, businesses and landowners via detour.
The diversion route will divert at Birr at Pound Street via the L-70065, on to Taylors Cross via R-439 and then on to Cloghan to continue North on the N62.
The HGV diversion route will be via Tullamore and the M6 motorway.

No dates have yet been given for the road works with Offaly County Council just saying that they will take place for two weeks in May. It says the road closure is necessary to facilitate the removal and replacement of road pavement and accommodation works.
For the works between Doon Demesne and Ballinahown, 2.8 kilometres of road will be closed for works. Access will be available for the local residents, businesses and landowners via detour.
Traffic will be diverted via the R-444 through Castledaly and then continuing towards Moate before taking the R-446 on to the N62 and Athlone.
The HGV diversion route will be via the M6 motorway to Tullamore and then on the N52. All diversion routes will be sign posted.
