Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel visits CNC.
COLAISTE Naomh Cormac was delighted to welcome Cathal Nolan from Ireland’s Weather Channel to their school as part of our Geography and History Week.
Cathal delivered an insightful and engaging talk to all year groups, exploring the fascinating world of weather and climate and their effects on Ireland. Students were captivated as he explained the science behind severe weather events, such as tornadoes, hurricanes, and wildfires, using compelling video footage to illustrate their global and national impacts.
One particularly intriguing part of the talk focused on the relationship between weather and sport. Cathal highlighted how wind conditions can influence free-taking in hurling and how temperature affects tyre pressure in Formula 1 racing, offering students a fresh perspective on how weather plays a role in athletic performance and competition.
Looking ahead, Ireland’s Weather Channel is currently constructing a new weather station in Rhode, Co. Offaly, and the Geography students are excited about the opportunity to visit and gain hands-on experience in meteorology.
Coláiste Naomh Cormac sincerely thank Cathal Nolan for sharing his expertise with them and look forward to welcoming him back in the future!
