Offaly driver arrested after gardaí clock them at ridiculous speed
A driver has been arrested in Offaly after gardaí clocked them travelling well over the speed limit near an Offaly town.
An Offaly Roads Policing was on patrol and carrying out random speed checks at the weekend when they detected a car speeding outside Cloghan.
The incident occurred in recent days and the driver was clocked travelling at 159km in a 100km zone outside the town.
Gardaí have said the driver was stopped and immediately arrested and charged.
With Christmas approaching, gardaí have appealed to drivers to slow down on the roads and to be aware of hazardous driving conditions.
Weather forecasts are predicting colder weather for Ireland from Christmas Eve onwards and drivers are being warned that this could lead to more difficult driving conditions.
