5 new podcasts to listen to this week

5 new podcasts to listen to this week

From motherhood and investing, to the best movies from the Nineties – this week’s podcast picks have something for everyone.

1. Milk and Mummies Podcast

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms and YouTube

Genre: Family

Milk and Mummies Podcast is where host Raychel Addo has honest conversations about motherhood, ambition, healing and building a legacy.

On this week’s episode, Addo is joined by Maryam Javaid, who is a parent mentor and cultural educator.  Javaid’s work supports black and brown families in dismantling harmful cultural narratives and raising emotionally sensitive children through her platform, Black & Brown Parenting.

The mum-of-three, shares what life was like before motherhood – which was more than 15 years ago – how isolating her birthing experience was during Covid,  and why loving your children isn’t always enough.

As the chat progresses, Addo and Javaid discuss how colonisation has impacted parenting styles, generational trauma, and some of the culturally normalised behaviours that we need to confront.

If you are looking for a parenting podcast without the fluff, then give Milk and Mummies Podcast a listen.

2. Total 90s Recall

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms and YouTube

Genre: Entertainment

Molly Merwin and Chloe Sackur consider the feminist road movie Thelma & Louise in their latest rewind back to the Nineties.

Ridley Scott’s 1991 American buddy comedy-drama broke ground with its portrayal of two working-class women who find themselves as outlaws when their weekend away gets rather more dramatic than planned.

The hosts are joined by script consultant Sarah Asante to consider Callie Khouri’s Oscar-winning screenplay, the evolution of its lead characters, and the supportive on-set relationship between stars Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis.

Asante’s contributions ensure the discussion warms up after a slow start as the trio consider the portrayal of the male characters, the famous dramatic ending, the film’s legacy and what has aged less well, 35 years later.

An interesting listen, but at more than 90 minutes, it could be tightened up in places where it loses a little momentum.

3. Kind

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms and YouTube

Genre: Wellbeing

Have you ever thought about the moments people were kind to you and how it impacted your life? Well, in each episode of Kind, it’s what host Holly Newson chats to guests about.

In this week’s episode, Shehan Hettiaratchy, who is a reconstructive and plastic surgeon and director of major trauma at a London hospital, joins Newson to discuss how kindness within healthcare can become the norm, a relief and even a surprise.

At the start of the episode, Newson asks Hettiaratchy to share three acts of kindness from various moments of his life, including when the tables turned and he found himself in A&E with kidney stones.

Hettiaratchy also spoke about when his second daughter was unwell, and a colleague – who wasn’t on call that evening – came into the hospital to help.

For his third act of kindness, Hettiaratchy talks about a special moment, whilst on a humanitarian mission in Ukraine.

Kind is a podcast that serves as a reminder of all the good that’s still in the world. If you are in need of some hope, have a listen.

4. Outdoor Minimalist

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms and YouTube

Genre: Environment

If you’re passionate about nature and enjoy thoughtful conversations about making the world a better place, the Outdoor Minimalist podcast could be right up your street.

Hosted by environmental writer Meg Carney, author of Outdoor Minimalist: Waste Less Hiking, Camping, and Backpacking, each episode explores a specific environmental issue through in-depth discussions with expert guests.

In the newest episode, Carney examines the current state of trawling in Alaska with David Bayes, an Alaskan and charter fishing captain. Bayes founded DeepStrike Sportfishing in Homer, Alaska, in 2003 and brings decades of on-the-water experience, along with a background in biological sciences.

Together, the pair unpack the realities of today’s fishing industry in the United States, looking closely at how trawl fisheries affect both the global seafood supply and marine ecosystems, and who ultimately benefits from these practices.

Carney’s thoughtful questions allow Bayes to share valuable insights, breaking down the complex mix of perspectives, stakeholders and policies involved in trawling in Alaska in a way that’s clear and accessible.

If you’re interested in environmental policy or want to explore more niche topics, the Outdoor Minimalist podcast is well worth a listen.

5. Investing Unlocked

Streaming platform: All streaming platforms and YouTube

Genre: Finance

No one would describe the start of 2026 as stable, with the conflict in the Middle East, rising oil prices, and rocketing energy costs all looming large. So, is now really the time to invest? Step in multi-award-winning financial broadcaster Georgie Frost to cut through the jargon and help us all get to grips with the idea of investing.

Every fortnight, Frost is joined by Simon Lambert, head of money at the Daily Mail and all-round financial whizz, plus expert guests, as they pick apart everything from the history of investing through to what really drives performance.

The next episode takes a look at the idea of “boom and bust”, with the author Will Quinn joining Frost to discuss why peaks and troughs can occur in the financial markets with no obvious reason, and why most generations will experience a boom and bust, whether they are aware of it or not.

They discuss whether it makes for a good time to invest, the long-term benefits and pitfalls and how to avoid common mistakes.

This podcast is ideal for anyone wanting a straight-talking, no-nonsense guide to money mastery and, ultimately, how to make your cash work that bit harder.

A companion series on YouTube – Investing Unlocked: Extra – is also available to help listeners better understand the world of financial affairs.
