All Offaly Fire Stations will be manned for the next 20-24 hours until Storm Emma and the associated blizzards pass.
According to a post on its Facebook page, Offaly Fire and Rescue says this is being done to reduce the risk to firefighters having to respond to the fire stations in the event of a call before mobilising to an incident.
The post states, "We are there for life threatening responses. Responses to other call types may have to be risk assessed. We therefore request that all citizens take particular care and not travel until the storm passes. When you are at home take care with candles and open fires. Please minimise our chances of being called out."
Offaly Fire and Rescue are also on the roads despite the terrible conditions bringing HSE staff to hospital and to the community to treat and care for patients.
Meanwhile the firefighters at Edenderry Fire Station are making sure that they will be able to respond if they are called out by keeping their access ways clear
