Driver arrested near Offaly border after gardaí uncover 'illegal mobile pharmacy' and more

As well as this, the motorist was found to be under the influence of cocaine and cannabis

Gardaí in Laois made a number of shocking discoveries after observing a van in such a poor state of repair “it stood out before it even moved.”

The Laois Roads Policing Unit were on patrol recently in Borris-in-Ossory when they watched this driver carrying out an illegal U-turn. Another road user was cut off as a result.

Once stopped, a spokesperson for gardaí in the county said the situation “quickly went from bad to worse,” with the passenger wing-mirror appearing to be heavily damaged upon inspection.

The van driver was discovered to be an unaccompanied learner who was travelling with no insurance or certificate of roadworthiness. As well as this, the motorist was found to be under the influence of cocaine and cannabis also.

Shockingly, a search of the van uncovered a wooden bat, knuckle duster and deal bags of what is suspected to be cocaine and cannabis with an estimated value of €850.

The driver was arrested and the vehicle seized. Court proceedings will follow.
