Offaly hurling fans warned after gardaí take action outside Nowlan Park in Kilkenny

Offaly hurling fans heading to Nowlan Park in Kilkenny on Sunday week for the eagerly anticipated Leinster Club Hurling Championship showdown between Kilcormac/Killoughey and Ballyhale Shamrocks will need to watch where and how they park.

That's after the Roads Policing Unit of Kilkenny gardaí took decisive action on matchday last weekend as hurling supporters attended UPMC Nowlan Park for the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Final where Ballyhale defeated O'Loughlin Gaels.

Earlier this month, Kilkenny City Municipal District councillors spoke out against illegal parking on green areas and double-yellow lines around UPMC Nowlan Park on matchdays at their monthly meeting.

On Sunday afternoon one driver's 'shocking parking' caught garda attention and upon further inspection, a myriad of offences were uncovered.

"Sometimes just like in the wild, the hunter spots quarry that has separated from its pack. In the wild it may be due to frailty or illness or even confusion," Kilkenny gardaí posted to social media.

"In Roads Policing it's often due to standing out from the crowd, in the case of this car by its shocking parking while its owner attended the match. Further weaknesses were suspected by an examination of the Mobility device which showed No Insurance, No NCT and No Tax.

"The Lion pounced and the struggle was brief with the car (cass) being hauled away on the back of our recovery," they added.

A court date is set to follow with 'penalties' expected.
