Nearly one in five votes spoiled in one Offaly ballot box

A TALLY indicated that nearly a fifth of all votes were spoiled in one Offaly ballot box.

Of the 256 votes cast in box number one at Rath Community Hall, 50 were spoiled.

Catherine Connolly was way out in front on 136 votes, with 51 for Heather Humphreys and 19 for Jim Gavin.

The turnout was 52%.

With 31 if the 111 boxes in the Offaly constituency tallied, Catherine Connolly was on 50% and Heather Humphreys on 25%.
