BALLOT BOX

TURN OUT is very slow in the Presidential election in both urban and rural areas of Offaly this morning.

In Tullamore town less than 20 out of 600 on the register had voted in the St Philomena's NS Box 2 by 9.30am while less than 5pc of voters had cast their ballot in Scoil Bride, also in the town.

Things were slightly better in rural areas where 42 votes, out of 500, had voted in Killurry NS at 10.30am.

In Kilcormac, turnout was 5pc, 3pc and 5pc in the three boxes in the urban area.

In total, there are 61,882 people on the register in the Offaly constituency.

In the last Presidential election in 2011 42pc of voters in Offaly exercised their franchise.
