Tullamore man charged with drug possession and series of thefts

A Tullamore man was charged with theft and drug possession during last week's sitting of Tullamore District Court.

Alex Berry, 52, Cloncollig, Tullamore was summonsed to the court and charged with being in possession of drugs at Tullamore Garda Station on February 11 last.

He was also charged with stealing a gift set worth €56 from Ryan's Pharmacy, Dunnes Stores, Edenderry on February 11 last, stealing two sets of headphones worth €28.35 and two electric toothbrushes and razor blades worth €194.50 from Tesco's, Dublin Road, Edenderry on February 11 last.

He was charged as well with stealing groceries worth €28.35 from Dunnes Stores, Bridge Centre, Tullamore, also on February 11.

The defending Barrister David Nugent told the court that his client had been on a “slippy and downward trajectory due to his addiction issue. Thankfully, he has since begun to regain hold of his life and is in a better place now. He tells me he will refund the stores their losses as well as attending rehab.”

Judge Cody adjourned the case for a Probation Officer's report. He also imposed a curfew each day from 8pm to 8am and ordered that he sign on each day in Tullamore Garda Station.
