Offaly man accused of assault, criminal damage and having a shotgun barrel

An Offaly man appeared in court in Portlaoise accused of assault, possession of a shotgun barrel and criminal damage.

James Buckley (28) of The Bridge, Newtown, Rahan, Co Offaly, is accused of threatening to damage property, assault causing harm and possession of the barrel of a shotgun at his address on August 10, 2025.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby told a sitting of Portlaoise District Court that the accused had been granted bail in the High Court a week earlier.

Hugo Mills BL said the matter was to be brought before the next sitting criminal sitting of Tullamore District Court.

Judge Catherine Hayden adjourned the case and remanded the defendant on bail to appear before Tullamore District Court on September 10.
