Stunning lap puts Alex Dunne in pole position for Belgian F2 Feature Race at Spa Francorchamps
An absolutely stunning lap that blew the rest of the field away secured Alex Dunne pole position for the Belgian F2 Feature Race on Sunday at Spa Francorchamps.
The Offaly driver went around the iconic lap in a time of 1.57.151 over four tenths of a second ahead of the rest of the field.
Having been fastest in practice this morning, he continued to show his mastery of the high speed, 4.3 mile track nestled in Ardennes Mountains. His average speed for the lap was 215.229kph.
Sitting in third in the F2 Championship, Alex Dunne will start on pole for Sunday's Feature Race and in tenth for the Sprint Race on Saturday with the reversed grid.
Alex Dunne currently sits in third in the Championship but Championship leader Richard Verschoor only managed to qualify in 11th for the weekend's two races giving Dunne a real opportunity to cut the gap.
Jack Crawford, who sits second in the Championship, eight points ahead of Alex Dunne, also qualified outside the top ten in 14th place.
The Sprint Race on Saturday at 12.45pm Irish time and the Feature Race is on Sunday at 9am.
