The case was heard at last week's sitting of Tullamore District Court
A DEFENDANT from Tullamore pleaded guilty to selling or supplying drugs during last week's sitting of Tullamore Court.
Danils Sikovs, Ard na Greine, Cloncollig, Tullamore was charged being in possession of cannabis for the purpose or sale or supply at Apt 5, Fionntir, 6 Market Square, Tullamore on March 31, 2024.
The 46 year old man had 19 previous convictions, including selling or supplying drugs. Sergeant Richard Thornton pointed out that when the Guards searched Number 6, Market Square they found €3,500 worth of cannabis.
Judge Andrew Cody commented that this was a serious matter.
The defending solicitor Patrick Martin told the court that Mr Sikovs is a Latvian national, is married and has two children.
“He had been working as a welder up to a couple of years ago, when he developed diabetes. He's on social welfare of €193 per week. He has had a cannabis addiction since a very young age. He has now given up taking cannabis. He was only distributing the drugs among his friends and he was making 15 per cent profit.”
Judge Cody commented that because it was a serious matter and because of the defendant's record he was therefore convicting and sentencing to nine months imprisonment.
