DO you have a teenager who likes to spend time on TikTok and other social media sites? Perhaps they are interested in a career in social media or communications in the future.
Midlands Science has the perfect free opportunity available in Tullamore in early August for them. Delivered in partnership with St Mary’s Youth Centre, the course will be delivered by well-known science communicator Dr Dan Nikstrom and Slawek Bracki of Apple Tart Production. Both of these amazing communications specialists have delivered a range of projects with Midlands Science over the past number of years.
The course is fun, engaging and hands on with all participants getting the chance to create TikToks and other content which explore the world around us in a way that is entertaining and engaging and it involves using professional filming equipment. This work is part of a wide programme in science and digital media which is delivered by Midlands Science and supported by the Rethink Ireland TikTok Digital Future Fund. The TikTok Digital Future Fund was created by Rethink Ireland in partnership with TikTok.
According to Deirdre Mortell, CEO of Rethink Ireland, "at Rethink Ireland, we are dedicated to unlocking the potential of young people, regardless of their background. Together with our partner TikTok, we are thrilled to support Midlands Science's 'My Life Online' workshops through the TikTok Digital Future Fund. By combining STEM education with hands-on digital media experience, Midlands Science is not only building a community that values science but also ensuring that the next generation is equipped to thrive in an increasingly digital world."

Jackie Gorman, CEO of Midlands Science commented, “developing and delivering these workshops since 2024, in partnership with the Rethink Ireland TikTok Digital Future Fund, has been a great experience and an exciting addition to our portfolio of outreach activities. This programme in particular gives young people the skills to become creative and accurate content creators and we hope it will encourage more young people to engage with science and digital media. The programme is free of charge to all participants and takes place in Tullamore from August 11th for three days. It covers everything from scriptwriting to stop-motion animation, so whether you are a budding Stephen Spielberg or Wes Anderson, this is the course for you”
