Laois Gardaí say the N77 road between Abbeyleix and Junction 17, Portlaoise, will remain closed overnight.
It’s understood gardai are dealing with a serious road traffic collision involving a motorbike the area. They have issued an appeal for information and issued a statement on social media.
“Abbeyleix Gardaí are currently managing an ongoing incident in the Abbeyleix area. As a result, the N77 from Abbeyleix Town to Junction 17 is closed and will remain closed overnight,” they stated.
Garda advised motorists to follow diversion routes and avoid the area where possible.
"We are appealing to anyone who travelled through Abbeyleix around 8pm this evening to contact Abbeyleix Garda Station on 057 867 4100.”
“We are particularly interested in speaking with any witnesses and reviewing any relevant dashcam footage. Thank you for your cooperation,” gardaí stated.
