Inter-county stars among Offaly players set to play GAA abroad this summer

Some big names are included in the list of ten Offaly players who are set to play GAA abroad this summer but are expected to return for the latter stages of the County Championships.

Charlie Mitchell, Daire McDaid and Oisin Kelly are set to play in America this summer while four Offaly players are off to one club in Europe.

Ten players in total have received permission from the GAA to travel abroad to play.

A USGAA Sanction has been granted to Clonbollogue's Shane O'Brien to play with Aidan McAnespies Gaelic Football Club

Two New York Sanctions have been granted. St Rynagh's Luke O'Connor has been granted permission to play with Hoboken Guards while Belmont's Oisin Kelly has been granted permission to hurl with Waterford Hurling Club.

Three J1 Sanctions have also been granted to Offaly players by the GAA.

Kilcormac/Killoughey's Charlie Mitchell will play with Galway Boston Hurling while the Tullamore duo of Harry Plunkett and Daire McDaid will travel to play with Padraig Pearses

And the GAA has granted European Student Permits for four Offaly players who are all heading to the one unlikely destination.

David Boland - Raheen, Eoin Maloney - St Rynaghs Hurling Club, Killian Brennan – Kilclonfert  and Kevin Maher – Kinnitty have all been granted permission to play with Cumann Warszawa in Poland.

This summer is set to be a big one for GAA Championships in the US with a host of high-profile names that have won All-Irelands, including Armagh’s Oisin Conaty, Dublin’s Brian Fenton, Limerick hurlers Shane O’Brien, Cathal O’Neill, Adam English and Clare full-back Adam Hogan.
