A hospitality worker allegedly had a small axe down his trousers and was carrying a flick knife in Portarlington.
Ike Omereige(34) of 8 Barrow Muse, Portarlington, was accused of having the items at Main Street, Portarlington on June 9 last.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the man was stopped and searched at Main Street, Portarlington at 7.40pm.
Sgt Kirby said it would be alleged the man was stopped and gardai 'found a small axe concealed in his trousers'. Sgt Kirby said the man was also alleged to have been in possession of a flick knife.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said she would need disclosure in relation to the matter. She also produced a pay slip and requested legal aid.
“He is working part time in the hospitality industry and he hopes to return to college in September,” she said.
Judge Susan Fay granted legal aid and adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on September 8 for a plea or a date for hearing.
