Alex Dunne continues to lead F2 World Championship after a fifth place finish in Barcelona Feature Race but he faced a nervous few minutes after the race before the final result was announced.
Having started in eighth on the grid, and driving on the alternative tyre strategy, the Offaly driver pitted late and came out in 11th He cut through the field up to fifth before a late yellow flag and subsequent safety car halted his progress.
Just before the end of the race, he was noted for a possible yellow flag infringement which was investigated after the race but he retained his fifth place finish.
As it stands, Alex Dunne continues to lead the F2 Championship in his papaya coloured McLaren Junior car.
He sits on 87 points, just three points ahead of Richard Verschoor who jumped up to second after a win and a third place this weekend. Arvid Lindblad is a further five points behind in third place.
The F2 Championship takes a break for almost a month with the next race due to take place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria from June 27 to June 29.
