85-year-old Offaly man who knocked over pedestrian pleads guilty to careless driving
An elderly Offaly man pleaded guilty to careless driving during the May 14 sitting of Tullamore District Court.
Gene Barry, 15 Sandymount Avenue, Birr committed the offence on Wilmer Road, Birr on March 3, 2024.
Sgt Brendan Kearns told the court that the defendant, who is 85 years of age, knocked over a pedestrian during the incident, but no one was injured.
The defending solicitor handed in a letter from Mr Barry's GP which stated that he would be fit to drive within the 30kph zone of Birr but not outside it.
Judge Andrew Cody adjourned the case to July 16 next for the production of Mr Barry's driving licence stating the GP's conditions.
“When I see that,” said the Judge, “then I won't disqualify.”
