Tullamore man sentenced to two months in prison for possession of cocaine
A Tullamore man was convicted and sentenced to two months imprisonment for possession of cocaine during the March 19 sitting of Tullamore District Court.
Jared Sherlock, Chancery Close, Tullamore was charged with being in illegal possession of the drug on May 19, 2024 at Church Hill, Tullamore.
He was also charged with failing to appear at Tullamore District Court On December 4, 2024.
The defending solicitor said his client is currently in prison serving a sentence and wished to apologise to the court for his behaviour. He is 21 years of age and has two children, the solicitor added.
“His partner is supportive of him and he has a very good relationship with his two children. He suffered quite significant difficulties in his youth. He has done quite well in custody. The routine which being in custody has provided has been of assistance to him.”

Judge Andrew Cody pointed out that he had previously offered the defendant community service instead of prison, but Mr Sherlock didn't want to accept the offer. Judge Cody said he was making the offer to him again.
The defendant told the Judge that he would rather stay in prison than be free and engage in community service.
The Judge said Mr Sherlock had “displayed a very poor attitude to the court since he first came before us.” He convicted and sentenced as stated.
